The Sagar Group ventured into healthcare services under the capable leadership of Dr. Chandramma D. Sagar in the 1960s with the establishment of Chandra Nursing Home. Almost four decades later, her legacy and vision were carried forward by her two sons, Dr. D. Hemachandra Sagar and Dr. D. Premachandra Sagar. They set on the path of providing affordable yet world-class healthcare to their immediate community by founding one of the first corporate, 250 bed, multi tertiary care hospital in the city of Bengaluru in the year 2002. This was followed by an ambitious 415 bedded, multi tertiary care hospital in the year 2009. Sagar Hospitals is synonymous with quality healthcare, efficiency, reliability and has set very high standards in the healthcare sector in the State. The Sagar Group has been active in both healthcare and education since early 1960s.
Ranked as one of the best educational institutions in the country, it was now time for the Sagar Group to explore the possibility of creating a strong medical education institute. Dr. Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research (CDSIMER) has been built with an aim to supplement India?s efforts in meeting the need for highly qualified human capital to look after the nation's expanding health care activities that will contribute to the global quest for attaining good health. The foundation of medical education at CDSIMER aims to nurture young minds to excel in modern medicine that builds on a strong global standard curriculum aided with clinical experience and advancements in biomedical science. Students at CDSIMER will gain a plethora of experiences through practicing compassionate community service while undertaking innovative research work.
Dr.Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education and Research (CDSIMER) has been established under the aegis of Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), a proud member of the Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI) family. Spread over 140 acres, DSU campus is located in Harohalli in greater Bengaluru area. CDSIMER offers comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. The Institute will be attached to a state-of-the-art 1350 bed hospital facility equipped with modern medical infrastructure that will allow to train future ready doctors. These young doctors will be tuned to become one of the finest professionals in the world, with a passion to serve humanity, especially the sick and needy. The first phase of the hospital constituting 300 beds opened its doors to its patients in the second half of the year 2019.
Founded by Late Sri R. Dayananda Sagar in the early sixties, DSI has morphed into a global education power house, with five campuses located across the State of Karnataka, catering to the educational needs of over 22,000 students. Operating under the aegis of the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peetha Education Trust (MGVP) in Bengaluru, DSI has enabled the transformation of tens of thousands of young Indian and international students into professionals in varied specializations.
